Originally from New Zealand, stand up comedian Rhys Darby is probably best known for his role as Murray in HBO’s Flight of the Conchords.
Never far from his stand up comedy roots, his style has been described as a sensational blend of sound effects, characterisations and askew observations. One of Comedy Carnival’s original headliners, he was featured at the club from 2004 – 2006.
Rhys has performed in places as far flung as Iceland to the Falkland Islands, and at festivals from the Edinburgh Festival to Montreal’s Just for Laughs. His notable TV and film credits include the cult comedy horror hit, What We Do in the Shadows (2014), Yes Man (2008), The Boat that Rocked (2009), Jumanji (2019) and Wellington Paranormal (2021).
